笔记： diesel engine 的燃烧方式是直接将雾化柴油喷进已经压缩的高温空气中，而gasoline engine是预先将汽油与空气混合，再压缩点火燃烧。因此diesel engine的燃烧比较剧烈而且不smooth噪音大。（抱歉我还是觉得smooth表述更好，词穷）相反gasoline engine 燃烧易控制并且smooth噪音少。因此，diesel engine的气缸内空气压缩比更高，拥有更好的循环效率，但是需要制作坚固的外壳比较大。所以diesel engine消耗同样油量动力却比gasoline engine更多。 划重点 柴油发动机不能加汽油，会爆炸。 汽油发动机不能加柴油，烧不起来。

Both engines have the basic four strokes, intake compression power and exhaust. There are differences between the two engines due to the difference between the way fuels burn. Gasoline readily evaporate So it gets mixed with air efficiently. As a result just a spark is efficient to produce a smooth combustion in a well premixed gasoline engine. On the other hand diesel dose not properly mix with air.

Gasoline and diesel engines are the two commonly used internal combustion engines. Even though their operation seem similar. They have some interesting differences. And each has advantages over the other.

Since the diesel engine is compressing only the air, it could achieve a good compression ratio without risk of self-ignition. But in a premixed gasoline engine such a high compression ratio is not possible. For higher the compression ratio the better the efficiency of a cycle. This is the reason why diesel engine type better fuel economy as compare to gasoline engines. An interesting question many people wander is what if I put gasoline into a diesel engine or vice versa.
